Hamden Homeowners Call Out Mayor, Council

Hamden, CT – Hamden Homeowners for Tax Relief staged the first of several planned actions during today’s Democratic Primary. Its members were seen outside the town’s nine polling stations, handing out pamphlets calling the Mayor, his administration, and the Legislative Council on their failure to instate a phase-in.

“The Administration has deliberately misled the Legislative Council into believing that a phase-in is not a viable option,” said Kelly McCarthy, a member of the group. “[Scott] Jackson stood in front of the Legislative Council and said a phase-in could not be done using the current computer system. The truth is that a phase-in was performed in 1980 when home values hadn’t increased nearly as much as they have with this revaluation. For some reason the administration just doesn’t want to do a phase-in.”

“Most people coming out to vote are probably expecting to receive literature on Lieberman or Lamont, but we’re using this as an opportunity to remind people of the poor job being done by our elected representatives and the Mayor,” added Carol Christmas. “The Council doesn’t seem to have any interest in taking a stand against this Administration in the interest of their constituents and that’s a real shame. We want people to remember that when they go the polls next year.”
